Internal Auditor (UAE Scope)

Cairo
Work Type: Full Time

Who Are We?

Thndr was founded with the dream to democratize access to investing through smart tech and human design, which is just a fancy way of saying giving anyone with a smartphone easy access to preserve and grow their wealth. At the same time, we’re promoting local investment products to propel the economies that we serve

History has shown that investing is the single greatest way to build long term wealth - but before Thndr, only a very small percentage of people had access to investing due to:
  • High barriers to entry - In the form of minimum account balances, brick and mortar onboarding and low financial literacy.
  • Irrelevant experience - Catered towards traders and financial experts, therefore alienating the majority of the population.
  • Fragmented offering - Investment products are not gathered in a single outlet.
On our short journey we’ve validated that there is a need for our solution, as illustrated by these key figures:
  • 3 million app downloads
  • $8.8bn in annualized traded value
  • #1 platform in terms of traded value
  • 84% of our users are investing for the first time
  • 65% of our users come from outside of capital cities and have previously had limited access to financial institutions
We’re proud of how far we’ve come and the size of our impact in just a few years - but we’re just getting started and are excited for what’s to come.

It’ll take a lot of passion, bold risks, and hard work to fulfill our mission of democratizing investing in MENA and giving everyone an equal opportunity to generate and grow their wealth.

About The Role

As an Internal Auditor, you will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing the internal audit function across Thndr UAE and its subsidiaries. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with ADGM regulations, international industry standards, and internal governance frameworks. You will lead a team to develop and operate a risk-based internal audit program that proactively identifies deviations from policies and standards, minimizes disruption to the business, and helps functional leaders implement corrective actions to strengthen governance.

What You'll Do

This role encompasses three core areas of responsibility:

1. Process Governance

  • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the internal audit program, aligned with ADGM and other relevant regulatory standards.

  • Collaborate with internal functions to ensure key processes are well-documented and compliant with regulatory and industry standards.

  • Embed internal control processes within each department’s standard operations and facilitate governance improvements where needed.

  • Implement ongoing monitoring systems to detect any deviations from internal policies or regulatory requirements.

  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and best practices, ensuring governance processes are agile and responsive to emerging threats.

  • Lead investigations into incidents, producing detailed reports with actionable recommendations for corrective measures.

2. Financial Audit

  • Oversee the evaluation and approval of periodic financial statements, ensuring they align with regulatory requirements and internal accuracy standards.

  • Ensure capital adequacy and monitor liquidity through regular reviews of financial reports.

  • Implement robust processes to detect inconsistencies in financial operations, conducting root-cause analysis and ensuring timely resolutions.

  • Work with both internal and external auditors to ensure smooth execution of statutory audits, and act on findings and recommendations promptly.

3. Audit Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with external auditors on mandatory audits, addressing any concerns, findings, and recommendations from a strategic perspective.

  • Lead strategic initiatives to continuously improve the internal audit function, including automation and IT integrations.

  • Develop and maintain performance metrics (KPIs) to track the effectiveness of the audit program, and present findings to senior management and the board.

  • Prepare detailed reports for the board summarizing audit outcomes, long-term issues, and regulatory compliance statuses.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in internal auditing within the financial services industry, preferably within ADGM-regulated entities.

  • Strong knowledge of financial products, services, and their regulatory frameworks, including securities, funds, and commodities.

  • Intimate familiarity with UAE financial regulations, particularly in relation to brokerage and asset management.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills to lead audit projects across multiple departments.

  • Critical risk evaluator with the ability to prioritize issues without over-escalating or underestimating risks.

  • Ability to stay updated on regulatory developments, fostering a proactive approach to changes in laws and standards.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.

  • Expertise in leveraging technology to enhance audit processes, including automation tools.

  • Attention to detail, ensuring that processes and reports are meticulously accurate and transparent.

  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills, promoting collaborative problem-solving.

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), or similar credentials are highly desirable.

At Thndr, we’re looking for people invigorated by our mission, not just those who simply check off all the boxes. We’re looking for people that are hungry to become agents of change and who understand the huge responsibility associated with dealing with people’s money.
